November 8, 6:00 p.m. | “NIC” | UAD premiere

Is it possible to create a performance about nothing? At what point does “nothing” turn into “something”? Answers to these questions can be sought together with the creators of the performance “NIC” (NOTHING). Monika Czajkowska, Paweł Bernadowski, and Filip Grycmacher invite you to the premiere as part of the Universal Art Design project on Saturday, November 8, at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium of WOAK in Toruń. Admission is free.

The performance shows a day in the life of the Nothing Service Office of the Museum of Nothing – an institution that seriously catalogs absence and presents exhibits such as emptiness, ether, vacuum, and nothingness. In the convention of theater of the absurd, small, ordinary, sometimes comical office rituals slowly turn into a silent alarm: what happens when work loses its meaning and every action is commodified? The creators propose various variations on the theme of “nothing”: both in the experience of this state and in the meaning of the word itself. It is a light comedy that gradually reveals a bitter reflection on a system in which action is sometimes only a pretense.

The fourth and final performance, created as part of the Universal Art Design project, implements the principles of universal design. According to these principles, artists create their works in such a way that they are as accessible as possible to everyone. The Czajkowska / Bernadowski / Grycmacher group intends for the entire stage action to be accompanied by audio description available to all viewers. It will become an integral part of the performance, an important artistic medium.

The performance was created during a month-long residency, which took place as part of the international Universal Art Design project. Theater, dance, and performance groups are participating in the project. Each of them spent a month preparing a performance or performance art piece that implements the principle of universal design in art. So far, the following premieres have taken place: the performance “Gorgon syndrome” by the NODOstage group, the performance “zbroja” by the Zajkowska/Murawski duo, and the performance “Errors and Failures” by the Dubilewicz/Wensierska/Krause group.

The project partners are: Teatro Stabile del Veneto National Theater from Italy and Kulturanova Association from Serbia.
