December 11, 6:00 p.m. | “The Chess Game” by Sofonisba Anguissola | DKJo!

Did you know that in 16th-century Europe, chess was considered a game exclusively for men? And yet, Renaissance painter Sofonisba Anguissola portrayed her own sisters playing chess. Anguissola’s painting “The Chess Game” is not only a family portrait, but a true manifesto of female independence in a male-dominated world.

On a December evening, let’s talk about this extraordinary painting, which is part of the collection of the National Museum in Poznań. Łukasz Wudarski, art historian and director of WOAK, will be our guide to the symbols and meanings hidden (also literally) by the artist.
