The painting is today in the collection of the Mauritshuis Museum in The Hague and has been a highlight of the gallery for years, alongside Jan Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl. During our DKJo! we will once again have the opportunity to explore the mysteries of the painting together, as well as to reflect on its interpretation. What you will experience during the DKJo! We will talk about the painting, which has intrigued artists, art lovers and poets for centuries, for whom the painting has often been an inspiration. We will learn stories, curiosities and anecdotes connected with the work. Together we will discover why the navel of the dead body on which the dissection is performed resembles one of the letters of the alphabet. We will try to find out what the open book lying at the foot of the dead body means and who the men watching the dissection are. As always, you will be able to share your interpretations of this mysterious and still unexplained image. The meeting, in which everyone has a say and an opportunity to interpret the work in question, will be chaired by art historian Łukasz Wudarski.
