Pawel Dobies | After the credits

Pawel Dobies’ film “Who are we?” is our April offering as part of the “After the credits” series. It is the debut of the author associated with the Bydgoszcz Film Chronicle.

As Pawel recalls, his adventure with film was preceded by a love of photography. “First black and white, with hours spent in the darkroom. When the possibility of filmmaking came “under the roof,” I became interested in filmmaking. Later even with little success, but I still lacked a decent workshop and the support of more experienced filmmakers. Luckily, I ended up at the Bydgoszcz Film Chronicle, where I made my first documentary film. It was there that I learned how little I knew and how much work was still ahead of me. He is currently working on his second documentary, which, he wants to complete by the end of the year.”

The heroes of the film “Who are we?” are united by one passion – astronomy. Thanks to their dedication, knowledge and commitment, an amateur astronomical observatory was created. Built by their hands since 1997. Each character is a little from “another world”. He often moves in spheres completely incompatible with the sciences. This multicolored confusion of characters is the starting point in the film. What remains, however, is a love of astronomy and a unique location, such as an observatory, unifying the picture.

After the screening, or more precisely after the closing credits, we will talk together with the filmmaker, who will talk about his artistic vision, creative process, inspirations and challenges he faced. It will also be a great opportunity to ask questions, exchange views and deepen your knowledge of the art of filmmaking.
