During his lifetime recognized and appreciated – after his death forgotten. Ildefons Bańkowski (1926-1982) was not only a photographer, but above all an architect and, incidentally, a designer of record covers. In April, a multimedia lecture in the Art of Photography series will be devoted precisely to Bańkowski and his photographs. The artist was connected with Bydgoszcz – here he lived and worked, and after work he created. Bańkowski’s photographs and negatives are now part of the collection of the Bydgoszcz City Gallery bwa.

As an architect, he designed, among other things, the Błonie housing estate, the construction of which he later immortalized while looking for unique and intriguing frames. He was a versatile artist, not afraid of experimentation. Since 1965 he was a member of ZPAF, he was also awarded the title of Artist of the International Federation of Photographic Art. His works were exhibited by galleries in Poland and Europe (including behind the Iron Curtain – in Berlin, Edinburgh, Lausanne, Paris and Brussels).

The lecture in the series “Art of Photography” will be given by Stanislaw Jasinski – photographer and photography instructor, member of the Union of Polish Art Photographers. An expert in the history of photography and a collector of antique cameras and other artifacts related to this art.
