Evening with titles | Dance Theatre Group | performances

The Dance Theater Group started at WOAK in 2005 as the Contemporary Dance Workshop Group. In 2009, the group became independent, and since October 2023 it has been associated with WOAK again. For almost two decades, dozens of people have danced in the group, and many of the group’s adepts have decided to develop their passion for dance professionally.

For several years, the Dance Theater Group has been made up of women. Currently they are: Jolanta Klauza, Magdalena Matyasik, Dobroslawa Mrowinska, Magdalena Pomaskow, Ewa Redlewska, Malgorzata Skusa, Paulina Tchurzewska, Zofia Wawszkiewicz, Michalina Zawartowska and Marta Zawadzka – founder and artistic director of the group, choreographer, dancer, instructor and dance theorist.

The group has produced several dance performances (including: “Cramped”, “1023 kJ”,
“However…”) and site-specific performances at the New Town Market and the CCA, and has performed at festivals in Torun (Klamra, Wheel of Time, Sphere of Movement), Bialystok (Kalejdoskop), Slupsk (Sphere of Movement), Zielona Gora (MOVE Festival) and Bydgoszcz.

During the Evening with Titles, the Dance Theater Group will present choreographies:

“Parapurnam” (2021).

Women. In the trance of life. Gestures, facial expressions, crowd, suppression, expression. About one and each, in a common circle many stories. Parapurnam choreography is about women. About struggles, passions, vulnerability and strength. About the fact that each of us is “parapurnam” – complete and full.

Inspiration.

Oxygen steadily penetrates the body, pulsating blood invigorates the tissues. Obvious. But the higher we get, the harder it is to draw air. Breathing speeds up, trying to make up for the lack. And when it runs out of words, it freezes in the chest. And it’s all just…. Breathing.
