It Can Still Be Fixed | VERTE | Creative Ferment: Debuts | Dance Performance

The performance by the Verte Dance Theater group tells the story of “human wrecks”—people who have died while still alive.
The concept behind the performance is a response to the song “Tego nie da się naprawić” (Chada, Zbuku, Hades).
The choreography was created to original music by Jakub Suszka. The Verte Dance Theater’s performance aims to make the audience aware of how widespread the phenomenon of “death while still alive” is.

Verte Dance Theater’s “It Can Still Be Fixed” was inspired by Polish hip-hop lyrics, specifically the song “This Can’t Be Fixed” (performed by Chada, Zbuku, and Hades), which reminds us of humanity’s tendency toward self-destruction. As the title suggests, the performance stands in contrast to Chada’s lyrics. The creators depict a situation that can still be fixed. They tell the story of people for whom life is a burden, yet who nevertheless function within society: they go to work, get up in the morning, and often even socialize; yet inside, when silence reigns—they are wrecks. “People in Ruins”: depression, burnout, exhaustion… there are hundreds of ways to describe it…

The main theme of the performance is the belief that every person is a separate world and a separate life. Because the play eliminates all labels, patterns, and stereotypes, the artists want to invite the audience into a dialogue. As they say, they want to have a conversation through art.

The performance is based on an original text:

A situation that can still be fixed—
A man who has already died,
But can still be killed,
Walks on, immortal,
His gaze on familiar terms with the sidewalks.
No kind word, no kind gesture, not even faith itself—
Nothing moves him.
He allows no thoughts of his own doom to find a voice—
A human figure, yet faceless.
He sees nothing, though his eyelids are open.
He hears nothing, though it may seem
That he is listening intently to the world.
There’s nothing left to hold on to
He’s sunk into a deafening silence,
Though he keeps walking forward:
Eyes toward the sky,
Thoughts buried in the ground
He’s still breathing, though barely;
Nothingness carries him away.
He lacks a purpose
He’s even left the stagnation of his own dreams
Somewhere behind…
Just like so many others
Take a closer look—perhaps I’m wandering somewhere in the shadows.
