“The world is not enough” is a series of meetings where, in the form of an open discussion, we will talk together with migrants and migrant women, living permanently or temporarily in our region. During each discussion we will focus on one country or city, paying attention to stereotypes, which we will verify and compare with reality.

The topic of the March meeting will be Belarus. This country, although so close to Poland, is still poorly known. It turns out that just across our border, truly historic events related to the struggle for democracy are happening, and Belarusians living in Poland, face problems with the Polish bureaucracy.

On March 13, 2024 at 6:00 pm, we will talk with Pavel Yushkevich – a Pole from Belarus originally from Vasilishki in Grodno region, who has lived in Torun since 2003. He is a graduate of pedagogy, international relations and tourism and recreation at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun. In 2011 he was awarded the title of “Best Foreign Student in Poland.” He holds a PhD in pedagogy and is a lecturer at WSB Merito University. He is actively involved in activities supporting the democratic Belarusian opposition. He was a co-organizer of solidarity actions with Belarus in Torun and Bydgoszcz, as well as photo exhibitions on the situation of political prisoners in Belarus. In 2012, he began applying for Polish citizenship, and after 11 years, the ABW Agency deemed him a threat to the country’s security.

The meeting with Pavel Yushkevich will be preceded at 5:00 pm by a screening of the film “Cut Out,” directed by Aliaksandr Vialitchanka, an independent Belarusian journalist.

The meeting will be held in English and Polish. The film will be shown in Belarusian version with subtitles in Polish and English.

The partners of the event are the Emic Foundation, WSB Merito University and the Copernicus Integration Center of UMK.
