Take a musical journey through the history of Polish humor with the WOAK Vabank Orchestra. Rediscover the most famous melodies from old comedy series. Along with the orchestra, prominent Toronto pianist Bogdan Holownia will perform. The main theme of the November concert will be the work of Jerzy “Dudus” Matuszkiewicz, a jazzman and film music composer. It was he who wrote the soundtrack to some of the most important Polish serials of the second half of the 20th century. You will hear musical motifs from “Forty Years Old”, “Civil War” or “Alternatives 4” and many other films and series. It will be a bit nostalgic, but thanks to Waldemar Urbanski’s new arrangements the songs have gained freshness and brilliance. The concert’s soloist, Bogdan Holownia, is a fan of Jerzy Wasowski’s work. That’s why the repertoire will also include jazz interpretations of songs by the Cabaret of Older Gentlemen. The concert was created out of love for Polish cabaret and the works of those who, by making us laugh, helped us face the gray and sad reality of communist Poland.
