Kazimierz Malewicz – Black square on a white background | DKJo! When 13.12.2023 | 18:30 Where Wojewódzki Ośrodek Animacji Kultury Toruń, ul. Kościuszki 75-77 | 4. piętro | sala 407 Show on map TicketsFree entry At meetings of the One Painting Discussion Club (DKJo!) we usually discuss representational painting. We try to analyze works of old art, learn about iconography and create our own interpretations. This time we have an experiment ahead of us. For the first time we will discuss a work of abstract art. And this is not just any work. A black square on a white background is the first non-representational painting, the beginning of a revolution in painting. During our DKJo! Once again, together we will have the opportunity to explore the mysteries of the painting and consider its interpretation. What will you experience during the DKJo meeting? We will talk about the work that changed art forever and opened the door to the creation of abstract painting, while contributing to the discussion about the essence of art. We will learn stories, curiosities and anecdotes related to the painting. Together we will consider whether “anyone could really create such a painting.” We will try to find out why the cracks are visible in the image and whether the sides of the square are really perfectly even. As always, you will be able to share your interpretations of this image that is still incomprehensible to many. The meeting, in which everyone has the right to vote and the opportunity to interpret the discussed work, will be led by art historian Łukasz Wudarski.
