Francesco Hayez – Kiss | DKJo!

The subject of the next DKJo! will be the painting “The Kiss” by one of the leading representatives of Italian Romanticism – Francesco Hayez. The painting is located in Milan’s Pinacoteca di Brera. It is one of the most evocative, passionate and intense kissing scenes in the history of Western art. But is the work really just about kissing?

What you will experience during the DKJo meeting!

• We will talk about the work, which still raises interesting interpretations.
• We will learn stories and curiosities about the painting, and try to explore the secrets of the technique by which the artist managed to render such a magnificent satin gown.
• We will consider to what extent Hayez represents the spirit of the Risorgimento movement.
• Together we will figure out who is the figure hidden in the background on the left side of the painting.

As always, you will be able to share your interpretations of the painting. The meeting, in which everyone has a say and the opportunity for their interpretation of the work under discussion, will be led by art historian Lukasz Wudarski.
