Fundamentals of cinematography in documentary filmmaking

With the help of analysis of selected excerpts from documentary films, we will jointly consider what characterizes the work of cinematographers in this film genre. We will list and discuss the different variants of the cinematographer’s work during documentary filmmaking. We will analyze the work on the documentary according to the basic types of cinematography:

Participatory camerawork as a form of personal relationship between filmmakers and their characters.

Observational documentary as a classic form of non-interference in the film material.

Home Video as a way of conveying the intimacy of the film’s characters.

Documentary essay as a form of universalization, looking down on important world topics. In the following section, we will review the ways of working in each of the above topics. We will discuss the basic ways of using a camera, found and natural light, using a tripod and the difficult art of hand-held filming.

He received a congratulatory letter from the President of the Republic of Poland for his artistic successes abroad.
