In 1975, along with the newly formed Toruń province, the Provincial House of Culture was established – an institution whose continuation today is WOAK.

Over the past five decades, the socio-political environment, organizational form, goals and tasks of WDK and WOAK have changed. Invariably, however, the institution was based on the passion and commitment of people who lived culture and for culture.

The fiftieth anniversary is an excellent opportunity to remember the people who shaped the face of the institution at various stages, but also to look at the role WOAK plays in the region. We are committed to making the WOAK 50th Anniversary Gala a moment for you to reminisce and reflect, but also for inspiring meetings and conversations.

In the program:

Official part – a summary of 50 years of WOAK activities and its importance in shaping the cultural landscape of the region, speeches by guests, presentation of decorations and awards.

Screening of a documentary film – the premiere screening of a film directed by Ewa Slusarczyk, which in a unique way will tell the history of the institution from the perspective of the people who created it.

The opening of a memorial photo exhibition – the unique display was prepared by former WOAK employees: Małgorzata Gardzioła, Barbara Płaneta and Alicja Usowicz. The exhibition brings the history of the institution closer through photographs documenting the most important events, changes and people who influenced its development.

Panel discussion: “On the future of regional cultural centers” – invited guests representing a variety of backgrounds will discuss the importance of regional cultural institutions and their role in shaping the field of culture.

The discussion will include:

  • Elżbieta Piniewska – chairwoman of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Regional Assembly,
  • Robert Piaskowski – director of the National Cultural Center,
  • Magdalena Ulejczyk – director of the Mazovian Institute of Culture,
  • Agata Kubajka – director of the Wahadło Culture and History Center in Brest Kujawski,
  • Joanna Suchomska – researcher, vice-president of the Laboratory for Sustainable Development,
  • Łukasz Wudarski – director of the Provincial Center for Cultural Animation.
