We invite residents of Toruń to screen the most interesting short films made by independent filmmakers from all over Poland. From among the proposals submitted, we want to create a program especially for you that is diverse enough to include documentaries as well as feature films, animations and experimental films. We will host female and male filmmakers, interviews with them will be conducted by Radoslaw Osinski.

On the first day of the festival, the screenings take place at the Center Cinema at the “Signs of the Times” Center for Contemporary Art.

  • “Son of Happiness” directed by Dominik Mirecki, feature, time: 16 minutes and 44 seconds

A single father raising a son with Down syndrome decides to fulfill his biggest dream of becoming a professional actor.

The film deals with the theme of parenting, dreams and challenges of disability.

  • “Queen of Ants” directed by Michael Frost, feature, time: 8 minutes and 2 seconds

During a job interview, a woman experiences terrifying, surreal visions. Will she be able to control them in time?

The film contains horror elements and tension-building scenes.

  • “Before Dusk” directed by Lukasz Nowak, feature, time: 24 minutes

Lazy vacation time. Janek is wandering with a pack of his closest buddies around his native town, which is a well-known resort. One day his attention is caught by a beautiful vacationer. Their brief acquaintance reveals Janek’s slumbering trauma….

The film contains scenes of nudity and touches on hidden traumas.

  • “Lili” directed by Michal Piotrowski, feature, time: 26 minutes

On his last day of work as a watchman in a disused mine, Henry decides to organize a party for local artists. There he meets Lili – a special girl he feels he has met before. They spend a few fleeting moments in a place whose time has long since passed.

The film deals with the subject of alcohol and includes scenes with loud music.

  • “Black Water” directed by Joanna Różniak, feature, time: 18 minutes

Emilka is young, unemployed and panically afraid of bodies of water. After a family tragedy, she spends all her time with her younger sister. A new job that requires total immersion in the past may be her chance for a fresh start.

The film deals with the theme of loss and trauma.

  • “Mr. Professor!” directed by Dominika Tkaczyk, animation, time: 15 minutes and 2 seconds

In a world full of absurdity and students in love with the perfect Professor, his colleagues sentence the Professor to death. However, one of his infatuated students – unable to speak – Miss Haczyk rushes to his aid.

  • “Authority” directed by Victor Plokita, feature, time: 23 minutes

A controversial video posted online by Sandra makes this one unexpectedly popular. The video is a reflection on modern authority figures and what a young person is capable of sacrificing to be noticed and appreciated. The story is set in a world full of people who desperately want to have an impact on the lives of others.

The film touches on social media, and includes themes of drugs and death.

  • “Tiger Soup” directed by Kacper Switalski, documentary, time: 36 minutes

The film tells the story of Stasiek, a welder from communist Poland, who goes to America in the 1970s to work in the largest traveling circus in the world to earn a better living for his family. Stasiek lives for three years in a train car, facing the hardships of emigration and a great longing for his family.

The film touches on the animals in the circus and the difficult working conditions of the emigrants.

The partner of the National Greenhouse Film Festival is the Local Government of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship and also: Centrum Cinema in the Center for Contemporary Art “Signs of the Times” in Toruń, Pers and Studio M6 Foundation.
